Help me give my students materials that will help them become proficient in English! By using the Story Sequencing Cards, photo cards, picture-words, colors, and alphabet bingo, they will increase their knowledge of the English Language.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our English learners need to practice lots of oral language! These hands-on activities will provide them with the opportunity to interact during our language building time.
Students will be helping each other develop oral language skills that are essential in building English proficiency.
During our English Language Development intervention time, students are taught foundational literacy skills, such as the alphabet, letter-sound correspondence, sight words, and nonsense words. They also work in small groups to focus on listening, speaking, reading, and writing tasks that test their proficiency in English.
These tasks include: listening to conversations, stories, academic presentations, and answering multiple choice questions; describing what is happening in a picture, supporting an opinion with reasons, asking questions and summarizing an academic presentation; reading words, sentences, short passages, and stories; as well as writing letters, words, and sentences.
Additionally, they have the opportunity to practice oral language with a grade-level partner, by completing activities, such as using sequencing cards to tell a story, playing a bingo game to learn new vocabulary, or describing what is happening in a picture. These activities help them build independence and ownership of their learning.
