Our school is 57 years old and is located in the largest city in Oregon. Like many schools in our district, our school population is very diverse, with over 25 different languages spoken and a high level of poverty. My class consists of students with mixed abilities, languages and cultural backgrounds. My students are always energetic, smart, and thoughtful fourth graders who are eager to learn. For many of my students, school provides safety, stability, food and support that they don’t have at home.
My Project
Each day my students have time to choose a book of their liking to read. When setting up my classroom this year, I noticed a lot of my books were worn and in very poor condition.
I would like to provide my students with engaging, colorful new books to capture their interest to read.
Our classroom library is in need of some new picture books and easy readers in a variety of genres and reading levels. My students have reading levels ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade and are in need of interesting books to support their desire to read.
