This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need help to overcome language barriers. Some of my students have limited vocabulary and struggle to enunciate and blend the sounds in the English language. Others are just learning the English language. These challenges are greatly hindering their ability to learn to read.

Our school is a small charter school with limited resources.

We have a dedicated staff who are working diligently to meet the needs of our students. My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Many of my students are lacking some of the language skills needed to help them learn to read. My students are energetic first graders who love to learn and have fun. They are excited to come to school and explore their world in the classroom learning environment.

My Project

The Tutor Language Learning System will bridge the language learning gap for my students. With this system, students will see photographs with text. When students slide the card into the reader, they will hear the text clearly enunciated for them. LED lights will illuminate the words as they are spoken. Once a child feels comfortable with the text, the system's microphone allows children to record their own voice reading the text. This will allow children to hear and correct their own articulation errors. Children will be excited to record their voices for their friends to hear them reading. Parents and teachers can also monitor progress by listening to children reading. This system comes with two microphone and head phone sets so that two children can work at a time. Students will see, hear, and record language to improve speaking and reading language skills.

The Tutor Language System will have students excited to read because they will be able to hear their own voices recorded on the system.

They will feel like they are a reading star when their friends, teachers, and family can hear them speaking through the headphones. The sight word cards will be especially important for the students to use as sight words make up such a large portion of written text. This will provide a multi-sensory approach for students to learn sight words.
