My Students
Moving to remote learning has been a huge challenge for my students. My students are preschool and elementary age in special education size classrooms, many of whom come from low-income housing. They are sweet and excited to learn and engage. My students are learning to engage in play, color, write shapes/letters, and complete simple tasks. I love seeing the new skills that my students are developing. Sometimes progress is slow, but all progress is special and I get excited from the small to the big things.
My Project
The struggles of remote learning have impacted all students, teachers, and professionals alike. Together we are all trying to provide the best experience for our students so they can learn and grow during these times. My students will be either fully remote or partially remote, and my goal as their Occupational Therapist is to improve the remote learning experience for my students as much as possible. With the purchase of a laptop computer, I will be able to provide my therapy sessions for my students in the most effective way possible. Since March, I have had difficulty providing fluid sessions with my students as my device continually shut down during the sessions or would freeze from overuse. I often had to restart my device multiple times during the sessions with my students, which caused disruptions and lost time. It was often difficult to re-engage my students after we reconnected, as my students have difficulty with attention and engaging in tasks. This was also frustrating for the parents of the students I work with, as we were constantly getting disconnected from one another because of my device. I also had the inability to share my screen with my students and interact with them in that way. My goal is to be able to provide fluid sessions with the least amount of difficulty and to be able to share my screen with my students and develop a more interactive component. My students would benefit from a more interactive component to improve their ability to engage and function.
