Before this time period, it was hard to imagine being in this situation of remote learning and attempting to teach students via video-conferencing. I am an Occupational Therapist working in a District 75 (special education) school in Brooklyn, and working with my preschool students through teletherapy has been a huge transition. I am a huge believer in limiting the use of technology with my little students, as this is their time to use their little fingers, bodies, and minds to explore and learn about the world around them.
It has been a challenge engaging and providing teletherapy sessions for my students without the basic supplies that most children should have. Many of my students have limited access to the appropriate supplies necessary to foster their growth and development, and they are limited to what they can gain from a computer screen. My students need these supplies and materials to build their skills and improve their functioning. I plan on using these supplies to assist parents in helping to engage their children at home during this vital learning period.
My students will be doing remote summer learning and I hope they can utilize these supplies and resources. We also don't know what the upcoming school year will look like, but these supplies can carry my students through the school year too.
