See It, Hear It and Feel It; Senses Are Important

Help me give my students opportunities to successfully work independently and with partner and groups. This will build a strong classroom atmosphere to thrive and our sense are a part of our daily experiences.

My Project

My students will be entering the 3rd grade; a huge transition in education. This is a time when you are moving your students from primary to an intermediate setting. My project goal is to enhance my students daily experiences.

It is extremely important to help my students be independent thinkers, problem solvers and communicators which includes supporting learning through their senses to build their self esteem and confidence.

To do this, I must provide opportunities for students to be successful and work independently as well as in groups. First of all, I want my students to be able to "show what they know" and get "immediate feedback" by using white boards. Students feel good when they are correct and need to be able to correct themselves immediately. This can be independent or group work. (see it) With that, they need dry erase markers; these run out fast and our expensive to buy. It is also very important to include movement in students daily schedule. They can not just "sit and get". My style is to provide opportunities for students to work with partners/small groups around the classroom and learn how to be better communicators. While they are working around the classroom with their classmates on the floor, I will be teaching them to build a safe classroom atmosphere, cooperate and cultivate relationships. I want them to be comfortable with pillow cushions (feel it). It makes it fun! Lastly, I want to make sure that students are able to work independently, without being distracted; therefore, proper sturdy headphones will be needed. This will allow them to focus on their differentiated computer programs. (hear it) The shoe rack is to store them properly so they last longer; many students will shove them in their desks.
