Goodbye overhead projectors. Hello document cameras!
"LetâÂÂs not just âÂÂadoptâ technology into our schools. LetâÂÂs adapt it, push it, pull it, iterate with it, experiment with it, test it and re-do it, until we reach the point where we and our kids truly feel we have done our very best." Marc Prensky
I teach Fifth Grade at an elementary school in Indiana.
My classroom is composed of special education, ENL (English as a New Language), and general education students. Our school corporation was able to provide our classroom with a projector in January 2011. My students are very fortunate to see their classroom transformed as we are able to incorporate 21st century technology across the curriculum with the addition of this new technology.
My Project
My students need a document camera to bring their studies to life right before their eyes! My dream is to have a document camera to display novels, pictures, texts, and so much more on the big screen for all students to see. A document camera would help to actively engage my diverse Fifth Grade learners in every lesson. Visual learners will benefit by being able to see small texts or demonstrations large on the projector screen. Hands-on learners can also benefit by allowing them to come up and place objects on the document camera and explain what they are showing. Another benefit of using a document camera is in the decrease in copying expense by placing one sheet of paper of the screen for all to see instead of having to make copies for everyone.
The document camera will transform every lesson in every subject area!
The document camera would be used to:
- display student work
- model note-taking skills
- display worksheets/study guides and complete together
- demonstrate math concepts using manipulatives
- show science experiments
- zoom in on text/pictures using the zoom feature
- display maps/pictures of historical people/places
The document camera is key in providing a dynamic 21st Century interactive learning environment for my students!
