My Project

Starting the school year off on the right track is a priority of mine. I want my students to have supplies that we need to make sure we have a consistent routine.

Giving students a space in which they can receive and give items they need, gives them an opportunity to show compassion.

With the use of the cabinet:

~students will learn to see the world through the eyes of another person by showing kindness to fulfill the needs of others.

~They will use the cabinet to hold unlabeled items in that students in need will have access to.

They will learn to work toward alleviating suffering in others by:

~being volunteer helpers that bring in supplies.

~ students will be engaged in conversations about disasters or other unfortunate events that causes suffering and then discuss ways we can help.

~ students will volunteer to help stock the cabinet area so that no one goes without. We will read stories to have discussions about alleviating suffering for others.

To measure success of students’ understanding of compassion:

~ Students will leave messages of encouragement on the message board outside the cabinet. Viewing these messages will show me they are learning to act with compassion.

~Students will also have the opportunity to randomly select a student to show kindness towards. We can use the storage bins to place small items like pencils, erasers, and glue. The outside of the cabinet doubles as a message board. Students will be able to find words of encouragement on the outside of the cabinet. I know that this cabinet and supplies will be beneficial to our learning environment because it will help provide support, encouragement, compassion, and build awareness.
