My students will be coming to school from all over the district to receive a STEM-focused education. Many come from low-income households. This diverse group of students needs books that reflect their values and families, and that are high-interest. Our school practices RULER, and we will need a place to meet daily to discuss classroom issues, strategies, and high-points of our day.
Having the classroom ready is essential to giving my students a safe place to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow as people.
My Project
This is my first year in the classroom. I am in need of all essential basic classroom supplies. Hence the request for these basic items.
I am building my classroom library from scratch - it is highly important to me to choose books that reflect the diversity I will see in my classroom, and also match their interests as 2nd graders.
Interesting books equal engaged readers who are developing literacy skills and a love of reading!
Supply caddies keep supplies organized and lessen the possibility of getting broken or misused.
The pencil sharpener listed is the only one I've ever seen in any classroom. I'm hoping that this one will survive the year! Classroom schedules are very important to everyone. It keeps me on task and helps students mentally prepare for transitions.
A rug gives us a place to meet as a community and learn. This will be integral as a meeting place to teach lessons, meet in small groups, and read.
