This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Think back to a time when you couldn't wait to rush to school, because you were so excited about what the day ahead held. Many of my students have yet to experience this sentiment. It's time for a change in second grade!

My students are extremely unique.

They come from diverse backgrounds where poverty is found around every corner. Although arriving from difficult backgrounds, my students have a thirst for knowledge. They crave learning and applying new skills. They are motivated to achieve. However, their school does not have the appropriate funds to fully support this drive for learning. The materials (especially the technology) is insufficient. My students are passionate and driven, and these resources will only help further their enthusiasm for schooling.

My Project

Imagine walking into a classroom full of students actively engaged in learning, questioning one another, and excited to practice their new skills. Now picture these students gathered around two iPads upon which they are playing educational games that challenge them to think critical and apply their new skills. This is my dream classroom. My students will approach learning in a new and exciting way. Students will be significantly more motivated to learn when the medium for learning is through a device such as an iPad. Students will be able to take learning into their own hands through quizzing one another as well as challenging themselves. Instruction will be student centered rather than teacher led. More importantly, my students will learn how to use technology, which could not be more important in this day and age. All of the subject areas taught in second grade will benefit from these resources. iPads will also help to manage the classroom and encourage students to be responsible.

My students live in a community where education is not always top priority.

Hardships are common, and learning is sometimes pushed to the wayside. Through the implementation of iPads in the classroom, my students' passion for school and learning will be rekindled. They will not only benefit this year but also in all the years to come. They will be able to apply real life skills in a fun and exciting manner. School will become memorable. Second grade will be a year to remember!
