Second Graders Seek Super Reading Stations!

My students need 6 vinyl bean bags for reading to self and buddy reading, along with a listening center for students to be able to listen to stories read to them as they silently read the words.

My Students

My second grade students enjoy partner reading on the classroom carpet. They are becoming voracious readers! One of my students is so excited about reading that he tells me how many pages he's read each day. He's so hungry for reading that I keep sending him to the library to find a new book to read! My students also enjoy reading chapter books. Another student who recently started reading on grade level, was smiling with a great big grin on his face, when he showed me his chapter book!

My Project

The vinyl bean bags will provide a soft, clean place for my students to read every day! I had to get rid on my old bean bags, because they were falling apart and I was concerned about the fabric getting dirty. My second grade students read to self and read to someone as part of their daily language rotations. On Fridays, my students buddy read with kindergarten students, so the clean and comfortable bean bags will be a great place for the children to focus on their reading!

The listening center will be an additional reading center rotation to provide students with the opportunity to hear a story being read aloud, as they focus on the pictures and think about what the words mean.

This will build their vocabulary and model how the words should be read accurately. Now, my students are sharing an outdated cassette/CD player, that doesn't work properly. A small group of children will be able to listen to the story at the same time at a new listening center with headphones.
