Second Graders Need Language Journals

My students need language journals to learn and review reading skills. They are new readers who are ready to learn but are in need of practice to internalize phonics and other reading/language skills.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are fabulous! They come to class ready to learn, ready to work and explore new things everyday. They are an energetic crew that wants to learn. They set goals for themselves and then strive to meet them both at school and at home.

My second graders live in a rural/suburban public school district.

The majority are on free/reduced lunch plan. They are constantly working to better their reading level and increase math skills and they love learning new concepts in both science and social studies.

My Project

My students need language journals to help them become better readers and writers. My students are striving to become better learners. They just need more opportunities to learn.

These journals will give them much needed practice in language skills in everything from parts of speech and grammar to reading comprehension and editing paragraphs.

We will use these journals every day and each student will have his or her own copy to keep in their desk. This way they will feel ownership of their journal and that will help them to feel that they are in charge of their own learning.
