This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Many of my students have not been to a bank or know the importance of saving. They do not know how to set aside part of their allowance or how to spend wisely. The computer could be their means of learning how to save and spend wisely.
I have twenty-five very hardworking energetic second graders who love learning new things.
Most of them stay in a rural area that is landlocked and they have never visited a bank. My students attend a Title I school that tries hard to give them experiences that they don't receive from home. They are eager to learn and they enjoy learning new things.
My Project
My students will be given an allowance at school each Monday (using paper money) to buy supplies or recreational materials for the week. They will be encouraged to save a certain amount weekly. Their spending and savings records will be kept on the laptop. They will compare their savings for each month to their classmates. They will discuss ways to save or spend more wisely.
Donating to this project will give my students the chance to learn about spending and saving money.
They will handle money to see how fast money can go. They will learn to create simple budgets and keep track of the money that they spend or save.
