This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember opening up a new box of crayons when it was time to do an art project? Well, unfortunately, my students are budding authors and they have no art supplies to complete illustrations for their books. Most students are sharing broken and worn down crayons.
My students are second graders who have been exposed to award winning authors as Ezra Keats and Jamie Lee Curtis.
They are learning to read and know how important illustrations are to a story. I want my students to have the satisfaction of becoming a published author by providing materials for them to write their own book! The finished project for my students would be a great accomplishment for many and would boost their self esteem and perhaps motivate them to strive to reach their full potential as future award winning authors. The zigzag books are easy to assemble and my students will see immediate results in their finished books.
My Project
My students would use these materials to write finished drafts of stories that they have completed in our writing program. My students have been exposed to many authors and most of my students have aspired to become authors themselves. Just seeing their work on display in our classroom library would be motivation for my struggling writers to get those pencils moving! The finished books will become part of the classroom library for future students to be inspired to become published authors and illustrators.
Donating to my project will encourage a student to possibly become an award winning author and illustrator.
My students have vivid imaginations and because they are young, the sky is the limit! By incorporating the love of reading AND writing in my classroom, I believe that I DO have a Pulitzer Prize winner sitting in my classroom! All they need is encouragement and art supplies!
