Mr. Radtke from Lambert MS is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books to read during reading time and sight work games to help them make their reading growth goals. We also need paper for their reading homework.

We have a broad range of reading groups in our class. Some students read on an early 3rd grade level, but some are barely reading on a 1st grade level. These books and games will help the lower groups catch up to grade level and push the high groups above and beyond 3rd grade readiness.
My students live in the rural Mississippi Delta.
They are all bright and capable 2nd Grade Super Stars! Our school is a public school, with 95% of students receiving free or reduced lunch. My students get excited about learning. They love testing their reading knowledge by taking Accelerated Reader tests on books they have just read. The line to take tests is always long (and sometimes daunting with only 4 computers!)
In the first month of school, our class of 23 students has already read, and taken comprehension tests on, 278 books (measured by Accelerated Reader tests). Although some are far behind reading on a 2nd grade level, they all possess the capability to be reading on or above grade level. Reading at this pace, we need more books for our classroom library. These books will help students to choose books that are interesting to them so they can be even more excited about reading. In order to read these books, students need to quickly and fluently read sight words. At independent reading centers, students can read these books or play sight word games. Every night, the students get a different one page story to read. Each story is based on the reading level of the individual student. However, this takes quite a bit of paper. To keep them reading, we need more paper too!
The ability to read on grade level puts our students on a different life path.
These students will not be behind when they go on to 3rd grade, and will keep with them loving to learning after they leave 2nd grade.
