Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are thrilled to be stepping into 2nd grade this August! I was their teacher last year in 1st grade, and now I have been given the wonderful opportunity to move forward with them to 2nd grade (also known as looping). We are all excited to continue working together!
These young learners are avid readers who love to be challenged and gain new experiences.
One of their favorite activities is exploring our classroom library for a new book (or two!) to immerse themselves in. I would love to provide my students with more grade-level appropriate reading choices, so that their interest in reading will continue to grow. Many of my students are English Language Learners, so it is very important to provide them with many opportunities to practice reading and understanding our complex English language.
My Project
It has always been my goal to create a print-rich environment for my students. However, this is my first year teaching 2nd grade and I would love to add these beginning chapter books to my library. My students would enjoy transitioning from picture books to these chapter books, and their developing minds will benefit in many ways. Not only would these chapter books improve my students' reading levels, but they will also increase my students' reading stamina and reading comprehension skills. I selected these specific books because they are very popular among kids in my students' age group. My students will be encouraged to read these books during our daily center rotations or during our daily independent reading time. I would also love for my students to have access to these books during our Flashlight Fridays, when we read books silently in the dark with flashlights for 15-20 minutes! I know my students would truly appreciate exploring and immersing themselves in these books!
