This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 2nd graders at a public school in an urban area which consists mainly of low-income families. They are just beginning their education and, therefore, come to school each day with excitement and a strong desire to learn. Being that my students are from impoverished homes, they have not been exposed to many things outside of their neighborhoods. For my students, school is the avenue needed to explore the world and to establish and reach their goals.
My Project
I am requesting Math and ELA manipulatives so that my students will have the opportunity to explore reading and math in a new, fun, and imaginative way. These resources will help to increase their reading and math skills and open a whole new way of learning for them that they would otherwise not have access to due to our limited resources.
Major concepts that are taught in 2nd grade are Place Value, Regrouping, and Writing.
The Math and Writing resources in this project will be used during centers To reinforce grade 2 concepts taught.
I will use the prizes as incentives and awards for each new level students reach. The glue and construction paper will be used to make crafts for holidays, gifts, and to explore their creativity.
