My students walk into our classroom every day full of hopes and dreams. I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina. The ethnic makeup of my school is very diverse, my classroom being mostly Hispanic, then equal parts Caucasian and African American. All of the students in my school receive free breakfast and lunch. Some even receiving food on Fridays to help support them over the weekends.
Despite many hardships my students may face at home, they arrive to class ready to do their best.
Which makes me very proud of them, they display a desire to learn. I wish to give them the best education possible so that they may achieve any dream or goal they set their minds to. I wish to set them up for success that will stay with them through their whole lives. That all starts with a positive, productive, and purposeful education. lifelong learners must enjoy learning.
My Project
Being new to second grade, I am not as equipped as I need to be to meet my students reading needs. My goal is to spark and engage my students reading interest and improve their overall literacy/reading comprehension. The theme of my reading nook is under the sea/beach. Having decorations such as inflatable palm trees, will aid my students by transporting them to another place while they read. This also makes for a creative place to write. Also, having a "buddy" such as an inflatable sea creature to read to will make reading fun and engaging for my students as well.
By donating to our project, you will not only help improve and increase student reading comprehension, but, also their love for reading; ultimately contributing to their overall academic achievement.
My students come from rural Eastern North Carolina, low socio-economic backgrounds, and multi-family homes. Due to this not all students are able to have the supplies necessary for the centers. With your donation students can have the notebooks, folders, and dry erase markers they need to be successful is the key to their growth. You will also be providing some supplies such as laminating sheets and magnetic letters that they will be using in their centers to be successful as well.
