My Students
My students are the best, but I may be slightly biased because they are mine! I work in an inner city Chicago Public School on the northwest side of Chicago. Our school is in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the city. We have students from all over the world and over 40 different languages are spoken within our community.
Currently, I teach a group of 25 diverse, energetic, kind, and caring second graders who are eager to learn and genuinely love coming to school.
All of my students come from many different backgrounds. The learning styles and academic abilities are quite vast, giving me the opportunity to provide a very tailored plan to suit their academic and social emotional needs. Although the needs vary, we have one thing in common...our dedication to learning!
My Project
Our world has become technology centered and our kids are right smack dab in the middle of it! Students at our school have access to a small group set of Chromebooks per classroom. We use online resources all throughout the day when students rotate through stations. Sometimes we do not have enough materials for our larger groups.
In addition to using technology for stations, our students in Second Grade learn how to use Google Classroom and Google docs to produce student work.
The more pieces of technology we have, the more access students will have. They learn so many valuable skills when accessing technology. We teach our kids how to research, type, and how to navigate the Google Drive. This also encourages them to learn their school email address and how to communicate with others. Overall, we have found great success using Chromebooks in the classroom.
