Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am switching schools and grades! I now have 23 curious, resilient and dedicated second grade students who look forward to school and spending the day exploring, thinking critically, and above all--reading. My new school is a Title I magnet school with 85% of students qualifying for free and reduced-price lunch, and 40% listing English as their second language.
My passion is providing a loving, structured and safe environment where students can fall in love with reading and writing, and explore the world around them.
My Project
The single most effective way to improve literacy is to ignite a love of reading and allow the space for students to explore their identities as readers.
My goal for each and every one of my students is that they become voracious on-grade level readers.I am hoping a well stocked, enchanting classroom library will help them get there!
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they choose books of various topics and levels to read independently. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
I've also selected a few items that will allow students to feel as if they are at home reading and writing in a cozy nook. My students love reading with the lights off, so I'm hoping the accent lamp will set the ambiance and help make every student want to snuggle up with their books.
