Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My studious 2nd-grade scholars are currently attending school in a hybrid model. My students are both English Language Learners and students whose first language is English, they show up eager to learn each day. They enjoy reading diverse books and participating in hands-on STEM activities.

Teaching the youth of today is very exciting…Soon, the youth will be our leaders of tomorrow.

I enjoy teaching them things that will make them successful in the future. My students come from a hard-hit economic community but rise to the challenges put before them each day.

My Project

This If/Then project is inspired by Ms. Fong's project, "Budding Ecologists Need a Drone and Hydroponics System." My students will learn more about Sam Wynns, an outstanding Conservation Biologist for the National Parks Service. She preserves the plants and animals of Cabrillo National Monument by collecting data and doing field studies of species populations. Students will also learn about the Mission Unstoppable Series: What's Special About the Soil? It is good for children to see how food gets from the field to the table.

Each year as my students grow food they can eat right in the classroom, they are amazed, engaged and challenged to learn more, these important lessons leave a lasting impression.

This project includes a magic bean garden kit for each student so they can plant their own seeds after learning about gardening and what it takes for plants to grow. In addition, students will plant the lettuce and herb seeds in our classroom's existing hydroponic garden. Each day students will watch their plants grow, make predictions and observations and then finally we will celebrate by talking about a balanced diet and eating our very own home grown salad!
