This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Imagine being able to get second graders excited about being authors! That is my goal this year, and the only problem we have is a lack of supplies.
My students are a mixture of military dependents and children from low income households.
Our school has about 400 students, and most of our classes have around twenty students. Our school is located in a very low income area, and most of the children from the neighborhood do not have money to bring supplies to school. They are eager to learn but somewhat underprivileged.
Our school district decided to implement Lucy Calkins' writing program this year, and while it does not require a lot, there are some supplies that are necessary.
My Project
This year we are implementing a new writing program in our school district. My students will be learning about writing by making books just like real authors. The resources I have requested will allow them to make these books and date stamp them daily. We will use these resources to learn about different types of writing, including narrative, informational, opinion, and poetry.
My students will have the opportunity to learn to read and write books the way real authors do.
Your donation to this project will allow my students to become better writers.
I can already picture my classroom with busy writers spread out around the room working hard. I am ready for this change in our writing program and hope to produce a class full of students eager to write.
