I have a long list of classroom projects that I want to do with my second graders, but we need the materials to be able to do them. This year, my students will be writing many books and creating art projects that will be exhibited in the classroom and throughout the school.
I teach second grade in a dual language program in Brooklyn.
The kids in my class are a wonderful mix of monolingual and bilingual students, who are learning about their own cultures, families, and communities while learning Spanish! They are truly amazing and inspiring.
My Project
I need a paper trimmer to cut out paper art projects and to help finish the books that my students are writing. Also, I would like to have paper for collages, paint and brushes, and one sketchbook for each of my second graders. I want to make sure that art has an important place in my curriculum. For example, we are currently learning about New York City. We are visiting various local places and talking about the history of the city. It would be great if my students could use their sketchbooks and art materials to create art projects about the amazing places that we visit. I also would like them to create group collages that represent some of the things that they have learned about the history, geography, and cultural diversity of the city.
I believe that it is important to foster my students' creativity.
Having the right materials will help me create art projects to support all content areas and that my second graders can share with their families and the larger community.
