This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! Most of them have been at the school since kindergarten, and our school is special because we can really develop a close relationship with each individual student as they grow up.
As a school with a bilingual program, students are immersed in rigorous instruction in both English and Spanish!
There are numerous benefits to being bilingual, and students work very hard to access the curriculum despite it being a challenge. We have both Spanish-dominant and English-dominant speakers, which means that 100% of our students are second language learners!
My Project
My classroom is just about to acquire a rug, and we couldn't be happier about this! I teach sixth grade and all of my students are eager learners. In my 8 years of teaching, I understand the value of being on the rug. It brings the class closer together and really helps keep the focus on the topic that is being discussed. However, sixth graders' bodies are growing and developing, so sitting cross legged on the rug can get uncomfortable.
Help my students access these seats as a means to keep them focused and engaged on the lessons.
The more comfortable they are on the rug, the longer they will stay engaged in the lesson. My students deserve all opportunities to have higher access to learning.
