This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My special needs students are delightfully funny, kind, and eager to learn and grow. They have conditions and differences that others may see as deficits, but they come to school every day with hope, joy, and love for life and learning.

While they may not learn at the same pace or in the same way as their neuro-typical peers, they are willing scholars who are making strides and are proud of their accomplishments!

Because of their special needs, they frequently find themselves struggling to "sit in rows and walk in lines" the way other students do. They need opportunities to move, fidget, and wiggle, even during work! I want to make it as easy as I can for them to accomplish their goals and succeed in school.

My Project

My special needs students come to the classroom with numerous sensory deficits and sensitivities due to their handicapping conditions. They do not access the school environment in the same ways as their neuro-typical peers. I would like to outfit their classroom with specialized seating, special areas in the classroom to allow them to self-sooth, and tools that help them remain calm during frustrating tasks.

These delightful students (who just happen to have sensory stimulation issues) CAN have great success in a classroom that is tailored to meet their specific needs!

Through this project, you will be helping me give these precious young people the tools they need to soar!
