This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All students are special, but every few years you get a group of extraordinary little people. From the first day I met this group of twenty first graders, they have been kindhearted human beings. They have been helpful and caring to make sure that everyone is included. They translate for the English Language Learners. They are thoughtful and considerate of each other. They help me organize my papers and school supplies. They help keep the room and supplies in decent condition.
Most of the students have been with me since the pandemic arrived.
We went through the remote learning experience and about one-half returned for in-person second grade, while the other half worked remotely. Hopefully, they will all return in September 2021 as Third Graders.
Since building a relationship with these students and their families for the last two years, I can say that they are resilient and hopeful, despite all of the unexpected events that have occurred since March 2020.
My Project
The variety of seating selections will bring excitement to our classroom that my students have been in for the last two years and will be in again for Third Grade. I am hoping that the seats will be easy to move and disinfect for the students to move around the class even when they have to be socially distant.
The students can be grouped by size or the color of the seat, which can be fun and unpredictable.
We can have first come, first choice of a seat which may improve students that may be habitually late. The students can also come up with creative ways to share the new exciting seating. The seats will be used for social-emotional sharing time.
