Seating Options for Energetic Kindergarten Learners

My students need different seating options in our classroom that match their energetic demeanor. Sitting on the stability discs, camping chairs and yoga ball chairs will let them wiggle while still working and learning!

My Students

Kindergarten is an exciting time for learning! Students enter the year barely knowing the letters and numbers, yet by April are reading beginning books and adding and subtracting. My crew is full of curious and creative students eager to continue their learning and "grow their brains."

Our school is in its first year and serves around 50 Kindergarten and First grade students.

We are an intentionally diverse community and seek to educate our students in a way that honors both academic and social emotional learning. We have committed teachers, parents and students but could use some help accumulating the teaching and learning materials that make up a school.

My Project

Kindergarteners are eager to learn but often wiggly and unaccustomed to the long school day. My students love to learn but have trouble sitting still throughout our long academic day. Though we often incorporate centers and other hands-on activities, more seating options would enhance our classroom.

Having a variety of seating options in our classroom will help students focus on their learning yet move their bodies.

They can use the stability disks on the carpet during mini-lessons or at their seats (on top of their chairs) during independent work time. The yoga ball chairs will help some of the most energetic students move and think throughout the day. The camping chairs will be great for independent reading time and let students rock and read.
