My Project

The computer lab where I work with K-5th grade students has an open space in the front where students can use a flexible seating option. They have floor cushions which can be placed anywhere students feel that the can work successfully. This option means the world to them. It means they can be the decision-maker in where they learn best. It also promotes accountability and responsibility and lets them know that their voice matters. The one thing that is missing, however, is a comfortable working surface on which they can put a device.

I would like to provide portable lap desks for my students so that they can use their devices comfortably when they are working on the floor area of the computer lab.

Having a portable lap desk would enable students to see their device at eye level instead of having to be hunched over just to see the screen. And, while it may seem like a small thing, it really makes a difference in the way students feel and how they approach their work. The better they feel, the more they aim to reach their full potential!
