Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students face daily challenges that could impede their ability to flourish in school. Through their dedication and perseverance they have shown that they are hungry for expanding their artistic horizons through music and arts.
According to United Way statistics, their neighborhood has one of the lowest per capita income as well as the most number of single mothers living in poverty.
The area surrounding the Academy has the highest number of known gang members and a significant number of violent and drug related incidents.
Their family dynamic is very strong and they support each other through thick and thin. They deserve the opportunity to experience the fine arts in every way possible.
My Project
Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
My students will feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment.
Flexible seating will allow them to choose where they work and with whom. It also lets them to change their location and positions as needed. Standing desks will help my restless students find success by standing while working. My wiggly students will use the sensory balls to engage physically while they engage mentally. The lap trays will give my entire class the freedom to work in any location!
