My Students

I teach in a small, public school where we have only one class per grade level. Most of my students have been together since kindergarten and know each other really well. This has helped to create a very strong sense of community within our school.

My students are eager learners who are constantly developing new skills and ideas.

My students are thoughtful, caring individuals who enjoy school and discovering all there is to learn.

As my students continue to learn to love reading, they are using independent reading time as an opportunity to develop the skills we are learning as they become thoughtful readers.

My Project

I am new to this school and my classroom doesn't have any carpeted areas for seating. Students need to move around the room frequently throughout the day and having other places to work, helps keep them from getting bored or distracted.

Our classroom library needs a carpet so students can sit with their book and read during independent reading time.

We also sit together as a whole group several times a day as I give instruction and teach mini-lessons. Research has shown that moving students away from their desks helps them from being distracted. A carpeted seating area for those types of lessons and activities helps students focus while also curbing misbehavior.
