Help me give my students opportunities to get wiggles out to enhance focus through wobble stools, handheld fidgets, cushions, and other flexible seating options!
Our students attend a Public Montessori school in the heart of Durham, North Carolina. Montessori schools offer unique learning opportunities that cater to the developmental needs of the children. Being public, our Montessori magnet school opens its arms to all students. We represent a group of diverse learners coming from various religious, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
We have a unique and diverse group of learners all eager to explore and challenge themselves in multi-age classrooms.
We strive to provide what the individual needs and to support their interests through opportunities to explore and grow.
Being in a multi-age Montessori classroom setting allows children to become responsible, independent, and hardworking peacekeepers who learn to be leaders and to look after one another. Students get daily or weekly Work Plans depending on individual need and they learn to budget their time to complete the necessary tasks. They practice leadership skills through peer mentoring and teaching. We focus on the whole child and try to build real life skills to help them as they grow and shape our future.
My Project
These items will make a big difference in our classrooms! They will help to stop disruptive behaviors and allow students appropriate outlets for their wiggles. The wobble stools will help the students I have who have extra big wiggle needs and crave more sensory input and wiggle time than others.
These tools will help our grade level (1st-3rd) to reach their fullest potential by giving them the opportunity appropriately manage their sensory needs and focus on work once those needs are met.
It will help other students indirectly as there will be fewer distractions in the classroom! I can think of so many students who would be excited to try out these new ways to sit and work. There are many opportunities for these materials to help a lot of different learners!
Students have already been introduced to yoga balls and wobble cushion and I could see the big difference it made in our classroom. I cannot wait to add more and share with my grade level!
