My Students
In our classroom, the children rise to the challenge of meeting and exceeding the rigorous demands of the curriculum. Each day the students strive to become fluent readers, capable writers, and develop a Math sense that provides understanding. Learning is fun, and smiles are abundant in our class!
Since our school is Title 1, our goal for each student is for them to become successful in school and life.
A strong foundation will provide the stepping stone they need to excel and have opportunities to succeed. Most of my students live in financially assisted housing and receive free lunch. Although they are poor financially, they are rich in heart! The entire school strives to nurture the students with love and knowledge. High expectations are producing results. Students in our school know that education is the key to becoming productive members of society.
My Project
Children enjoy comfortable work stations just like adults. A desk and chair is not ideal for everyone. My students need flexible seating options such as bouncy balls and floor cushions to enhance classroom engagement and comfort. With alternate seating, students are free to make a choice of which seating arrangement is best for their learning. By giving them a choice, I am helping them begin to learn how to make appropriate choices for success in the classroom. This also reduces the amount of behavior problems that can occur. By having choices, students have their own space to spread out and have room to comfortably work. If a child is not at peace working at their desk, they can choose an inflatable balance ball to sit on, soft seat cushions to sit lower to the floor and work with a lap desk, child-sized stools, or if they just need to move a little...they can put a bouncy band on their chair legs for fidgety learners. Seating options like these will provide opportunity for higher engagement and success.
