My Students

My students are vibrant, challenging, inquisitive and loving children doing the best that they can on any given day. They are full of smiles and cheer and have personalities that will melt your heart. They come from low income homes but have hearts filled with love and hope. They deserve everything that I can give them and then some. Many of them experience life's daily struggles and have difficulty showing up for school. They are only seven and eight years old, and seek for learning either with "in-person" or online virtual learning.

Our school is 100% free breakfast and lunch.

We have the highest rate of ELLs (English Language Learners) in the state and have a high number of special education students. My class has students with a range of disabilities including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. Despite the challenges they face outside of school, students show up to our school excited to learn. They need tools that will help them reach their goals.

My Project

This past school year my students have been fully virtually learning. However, in just a few days some of my wonderful students will enter the doors of my classroom for the first time this school year. I would like them to feel welcomed, and not endure simple stresses.

So, what is more frustrating than tangled computer wires?

Not much! In this project, I am requesting funds in order to purchase a set of wireless keyboards and mice. In our classroom, we are blessed to have 5 desktop computers that we use for a combination of work and play. The computers are used for typing up writing samples, researching information, and also during indoor recess to play educational games. These wireless keyboards will help us tremendously by eliminating the annoying tangled wires. Our computer table isn't huge, and the tight quarters exacerbate the likelihood that things will get jumbled up. These wireless keyboards will allow us more flexibility in movement and collaboration opportunities.

I am also requesting chair pockets that slip onto the back of chairs and provide storage space for books, pencils, and classroom supplies. Instead of traditional desks, our classroom is outfitted with tables that provide great opportunities for collaboration and group work. However, these tables do not have storage for each student to store their items needed throughout the day. These items will benefit my classroom immensely by both minimizing transition time and increasing our organization systems in place.
