This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in the Bronx and all of my students are English Language Learners with a range of English proficiency levels. Despite the potentially nerve racking experience of not speaking the common language, my students arrive with smiles on their faces, eager to explore and learn about their new environment.
Many of my students come from different Caribbean and Latin American countries.
They come with different customs and they are eager to share their cultures and learn about their peers and their new homes.
My Project
Our school runs on a block schedule, which means that we switch content every forty-five minutes. My second grade students receive five to six lessons daily, so transitioning from subject to subject needs to be a quick and smooth transition. Otherwise, students have less time to learn and explore the content. The seating for my students consists of five rectangular tables, with no place for storing notebooks or other supplies. The lack of personal storage causes confusion and takes time away from my students' learning. Having these seat stacks will allow my students to spend more time learning and less time searching for notebooks in communal bins.
