Every morning my second graders start off the day by unpacking their schoolbags. They take out their notebooks, folders, book baggies, and personal items. Since we do not have desks in our classroom, my second graders need seat sacks to organize all their classroom materials.
The majority of my students are English language learners with low socio-economic status.
My students are eager to learn and read about the world around them. My kids love to be at school and are like little sponges absorbing everything around them.
The parents work long hours and usually do not see their children except once a week. My students are usually cared for by their grandparents or a family friend. Most of my students do not have someone who speaks English at home. Thus it is difficult for my students to acquire academic and speaking knowledge of English.
My Project
I have requested seat sacks and hope to have them ready for my students to use in September. The seat sacks will help my students start learning how to organize and be responsible for their classroom materials.
During arrival, students will learn the routine of unpacking their notebooks, folders, book bag, and personal items, and putting them neatly in their seat sacks. At the end of each day, students will be responsible for taking out the school materials they need for homework from their seat sacks and packing them into their schoolbags. Each student will be responsible for keeping their seat sack clean throughout the school year.
Your donation to this project will allow my students to have the materials necessary to organize and store their personal belongings.
Since we do not have desks in the classroom, it becomes a challenge to find storage space for each student in the classroom.
With the seat sacks, my students will have their own personal space to store all the classroom materials they need for the school day in a convenient space. The seat sack will also keep the classroom less cluttered.
