My Students

Have you ever been crowded into a small space with too many people? Have you been asked to focus and work in this environment? I have a class of 33 second graders who have very little personal space, but also need to learn! Help my students claim some space to themselves by donating to my project!

I teach second grade at an inner city public school.

My students are bright, creative, and eager to learn, but often feel stifled in our over-crowded classroom with insufficient resources to help them achieve. Without the proper classroom materials, students can feel overwhelmed and feel the need to compete for space and resources. This need can cause social trouble and can distract from important learning in the classroom.

My Project

I have requested Seat Sacks because they will provide each of my 33 students with a personal storage unit right at their class desks. Rather than wasting instructional time by moving around the room to access their instructional materials, my students will be able to reach into their very own Seat Sack and immediately use the resources inside. These Seat Sacks will hold independent reading books, classwork folders, individual white boards, markers, and any personal effects that students may need throughout the school day. In addition to saving instructional minutes, each child in my large class will feel that they have their own space in the room, and can develop a more personal relationship with his/her learning space.

We all need a place to call our own, especially when navigating the many social and academic demands of the second grade. My class is exceptionally large this year, and many students may feel that they don't have the attention and space they need to spend their day learning. Providing them each with their own space will make such a difference in their ability to focus and achieve this year!
