My students are a diverse group of 4th graders. They are part of a STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine) Magnet which started at our school this year. My 4th grade students are responsible, motivated students who are eager to learn.
One thing I emphasize to my students is the importance of organization.
My students are expected to not only learn the core subjects such as Math and Reading, but they are also expected to work on research projects and hands-on projects because of the Magnet program. With all of the materials and items my students need to keep track, space and organization becomes an issue.
"For every minute spent organizing is an hour earned." -Benjamin Franklin. With the number of books, notebooks, folders, and other items the students have to keep track, space is an issue in our classroom. My students need quality seat sacks that go over their chairs in order to help them organize their materials. Students are constantly getting up to get books from the bookshelf because they don’t fit in their desks. Having seat sacks will help provide extra storage for their agenda books and folders.
Having materials organized and easily accessible will save time during transitions.
Time saved will be used for learning. When students are asked to write their homework or take out a specific folder, students do not need to look through their desks because they can easily get them from their seat sacks. The great thing about seat sacks is that they can be reused so future students can benefit from them, too.
