We are a group of hard-working first graders in Franklin, TN! First grade is such a fun grade to teach. They are very eager to learn and so excited to start reading! My school is a Title I school where over 50% of the kids receive free or reduced-price lunch. These kids come from very diverse homes, and many of them are English language learners.
I am looking forward to a great year with a group of first graders who are so eager to learn and who I can help develop a love for school.
The students who will directly benefit from this project are six and seven-year-old kids who are very eager to learn and be successful.
My Project
Clutter in your physical surroundings will clutter your mind and spirit.
First grade students are learning how to stay organized and focus in an academic setting.
In order to be successful, my students need to learn how to organize their supplies. I want to help them to be more independent in taking care of their journals and books and accessing them when needed. These skills will help my students function more effectively as they progress through school.
Every child wants things to call their own. In this case, I want my students to feel ownership of their learning supplies. My students need 20 seat sacks to hold their books and other learning supplies. Because their supplies will be readily available to them in their seat sacks, they will feel empowered and independent. We will not lose valuable instructional time passing out materials. Students will be able to access their own supplies when needed.
First grade students want to be independent, but organization is a skill that needs to be developed.
I believe organized people are more successful, and an organized classroom is more effective. Seat sacks for all my students will be the key to achieving organization, effectiveness, and success.
