My Students

The next generation of scientist could be obsolete if we do not invest in them. What can be more inspiring to students than a tour of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory?

These students in my class are probably some of the most diverse in the nation.

They are both diverse culturally and economically. My classroom alone has students of African, Korean, European, Mongolian, Bengali, Israeli, Chinese, and Latin ancestry. Other classes would be invited to experience the JPL Laboratory as well, including a class of students with special needs. A trip to the Jet Propulsion Laboratory could inspire a diverse range of students to become the next generation of NASA scientists.

My Project

A first hand account of what it feels like to study our galaxy and beyond could be a life changing experience for third graders. It is in these early years that many of us develop a passion that can shape the careers and interests we pursue. Having scientific resources (books, science sets, magazine subscription) paired with first hand accounts from current Jet Propulsion Laboratory would make a tremendous impact on my students and their comprehension of difficult abstract concepts. This experience will help them understand that there are several billion stars in our galaxy alone. They are distributed into the same constellations that were observed by all of our ancestors.

This grant would also allow our classroom library to permanently have appropriately leveled scientific texts.

Additionally, it would provide a Biobubble that would allow our class to recreate environments on this planet and others. The sky is the limit or should I say "limitless!"
