As a social studies high school teacher, I currently teach regents diploma-bound Government, Economics, US, and Global History to students with special needs. These subject areas require in depth analysis of primary documents, which may include texts, images, or diagrams. Frequently, these documents consist of highly abstract ideas and concepts that are difficult for my students to grasp.
The iPad allows for a multi-functional learning tool; as an e-reader and portable note taker, it will help my students with reading comprehension.
It is an important tool to help increase my effectiveness in teaching students with special needs; I can use it with an Apple Pencil to annotate dense texts and demonstrate graphing for economics.
The iPad and Apple Pencil will enable me to teach in a physical classroom. The iPad also makes it significantly easier to provide feedback on students' digital assignments.
