My Project

My English Language Learners with significant cognitive disabilities are part of a full-time, community-based worksite program. We work through the Volunteer Department of a local community-based hospital and engage in functional and vocational job training across various departments within the hospital and its campus.

All of the items in our cart will help provide longevity of and protection of our vocational materials and supplies needed to most effectively and professionally complete our jobs in the hospital.

Our storage is limited to mainly drawers in file cabinets. Therefore, each student will receive their own plastic bag to keep, maintain, and neatly store their work jacket uniform, ID badge and meal voucher in each day/night. A laminator, laminating sheets, and dry erase markers will help us preserve and reuse our checklists and visual cue cards needed for our students to most independently complete their jobs. (It will also help us save paper and printer ink!) We also do deliveries across multiple buildings of the hospital that require us to bring carts full of supplies back and forth on a daily basis, multiple times a day. Despite whatever weather we are experiencing, rain, wind, sleet, or snow, our class is still on the go! Therefore, the plastic table cloths would help us to cover and protect our carts and the supplies inside from the elements as we complete our daily delivery jobs.

My students love learning and practicing their vocational and functional jobs skills at their worksite. They love what they do and they take great pride in their work. All of their manipulatives, checklists, and materials are crucial to their learning process as they learn best through hands-on routines and real-world experiences. So please help me to help give them the best supplies so that they can do their best work!
