Sea Star Dissection Day

Help me give my students preserved sea star specimens for an amazing dissection lab.

My Project

My marine science students love dissections. I have requested specimens of preserved sea stars for my two marine science classes. These sea stars are safely preserved and easy to dissect. Students will work in pairs, as I will lead this dissection.

Science students are always intrigued by the organs, systems, or parts of an organism.

This invertebrate offers a glimpse into anatomy and physiology. We learn cool facts. Did you know that each arm or ray has an eyespot on the end? Did you know that sea stars have sucker feet, but also tentacles?

Since our class is located on the coast, this is an especially interesting lab. This activity is appealing to the gifted student as well as those who are learning challenged or have a specific learning disability. Sea star dissection day is always an amazing learning opportunity for my curious marine science students. I have included Cheez-its for a post-dissection snack!
