Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a public, Title l charter school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch and is located in a small, urban community. Many of our students come from diverse backgrounds, and include a high population from military families. Our school is a place where children are empowered to become the best learner they can be, with teachers and staff who make them feel safe, comfortable, and welcome each and every day.
In many urban communities, students are not provided with the same tools, materials, and experiences found in more affluent areas.
My students are growing to be lifelong learners, and they are in need of enriching adventures that will help them develop and strengthen their understanding of the world around them.
My second graders are creative, loving, and most importantly - unstoppable in their quest to be successful. Their families sought out our public, charter school and put their most valuable young people in my classroom. The parents are confident in my abilities as a teacher and with these new partnerships and community connections, I enter my room everyday more prepared and driven to provide my students with the experiences they deserve.
My Project
In many urban communities, funding is low for school field trips. Learning about conservation and how to protect our planet has inspired many of the students in my classroom. The SD Zoo is in our own backyard and we would love an opportunity to visit and learn from their conservation efforts.
My students are committed to their development as lifelong learners and global leaders.
At our school, our students have learned that they have the power to change their future and make a difference in the global community. My students are beginning to see themselves as activists capable of affecting change. They commit themselves to be accountable for their education and work diligently each day to enhance the world they live in. They are using resources within the classroom to learn about our planet. However, they would benefit greatly by seeing the work in action.
This trip that I have requested will provide my students with the chance to learn from other field experts. They are prepared to ask environmentalists questions, read about endangered species, and enjoy the exhibits at the zoo. This trip will afford my students the opportunity to challenge themselves and fit what they have learned into a real life situation. The wide selection of exhibits available will allow for choice and exploration. Your generous donations to our project will largely impact the lives of my students. With your support and contribution, my students will be able to manage their own learning and thinking. They will begin to successfully and confidently navigate this concept of global responsibility. They will be able to focus on understanding content while enjoying an engaging day at the San Diego Zoo.
