My Project
I teach 175 middle school students in sculpture and ceramics. The students learn the basics with clay and sculpture when they start out. Projects that will benefit from donations include wheel throwing and hand building with clay. It will also include projects that use cardboard, plaster, and other recycled materials.
This year being my first in this district, I've been resourceful enough to utilize recycled cardboard and small donations from local artists cleaning out their supplies.
However, class sizes of almost 30 require lots of time, care, and materials. Students are learning how to build basic geometric and organic forms in abstract art projects, how to create unique, wearable masks, and how to make wearable, functional items to utilize. The opportunity to have more disposable materials like mini hot glue sticks, acrylic paint, and other basics make a huge impact on classroom progress.
