Sculpting With Sister Corita in Mind

Help me give my students wire cutting tools and needle nose pliers for sculpting wire projects, and the gift of learning about Sister Corita's artwork and compassion toward the world.

My Project

Sister Corita Kent, the “pop art nun,” burst onto the 1960s art scene with splashes of color and ad slogans transformed into messages of love, hope, peace, and justice. The art world would never be the same—and neither would the young people whose lives she changed.

Students will learn to see the world through the eyes of this exceptional woman and create sculptures reflective of the messages of love, hope, peace, and justice.

Using sculpting wire, pliers, and wire cutters, students will use their incredibly creative minds to share their thoughts through art. Students will create a short written piece to explain their work and the process, including what was challenging and how their art will change the school community. A "compassion corner" display will be created for the staff, students, and families of our close-knit neighborhood school.
