Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students learn best by creating, and creative thinkers they are!
I have a culturally and economically diverse group of students, but the commonalities they share are their passion and love of learning.
They love learning through the visual and performing arts and have so many great perspectives and interpretations to share. They are original thinkers in so many ways and drive the momentum of the classroom in such creative ways. We are a Title 1 school that has a very supportive group of parents, teachers, and staff.
My Project
The resources I am requesting, the Play-Doh, sculpture clay, wire, and mounting foam boards, are going to be used to create multiple 3-D artifacts to symbolize the life of a colonial figure we will be learning about as part of our unit on early America relating to the 13 colonies. My students will each be assigned a colonial region to study and choose a figure from their chosen colony to research. They will write a bio in first-person point-of-view based on research from primary documents, classroom texts, and digital content. They will assume the character of a historical figure and as a final activity, design sculptures that would represent their life as that person. Sculptures will then be displayed as a museum collection where students will share their written reports and what each artifact symbolizes about their person of study.
My project will allow my students deepen their understanding of important historical figures who played a very critical role in the development of this country and my students' knowledge will be expressed through visual media.
