My Project
My visual arts students are diving into a powerful cross-curricular project where they'll learn about the human impact on coral reefs—then bring that learning to life through ceramic sculpture. This project will empower students to become more informed, empathetic citizens who understand the connection between human actions and the planet's health.
Using science and art-making, students will create realistic clay coral reef sculptures that reflect the beauty of these marine ecosystems and the urgency of protecting them.
Through this hands-on experience, they'll gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues while developing skills in sculpting, design, and creative expression.
With your support, my students will have access to quality materials-clay, Mayco glazes, and sculpting tools that allow them to create and finish their coral reef sculptures. These supplies will give them the opportunity to create art that is not only visually beautiful but also rich in environmental meaning.
By turning science into sculpture, they'll use their creativity to raise awareness about ocean conservation, proving that even middle schoolers can be environmental advocates through the arts!
