My Students
I teach in a highly diverse and transient school. This year all of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have students with many different backgrounds, single parent homes, students in foster care, and students who have moved several times in their short lives. I have been working at my building for 18 years and love to watch my students grow through the years. Because school is often what they consider their safe space, I try my best to make the classroom a home for them.
My Project
Students will be given the opportunity to do some project based learning with these building materials. They will be guided to create various structures, they will learn about how buildings are affected by various material, structure, and weather and even land changes.
Technology is a useful tool but it is so important at times to turn the screens off and get hands-on!
This project will help students create, build and think using hands-on brain building resources and allow students to learn through doing!
They will also be allowed to explore independently and learn through self directed, independent study and design.
Open ended play is also something that I feel is not only important but necessary for young students and these items will be popular resources during the cold months of our daily indoor recess.
