My students need screen printing supplies, such as fabric ink, screens, screen mesh, film, and cleaning supplies, to begin creating their own printed designs.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every week, I have students who come into my classroom who what to learn how to screen print. They know it's a personal passion of mine, and I want to teach the things I care about the most.
I teach a 9th grade foundations in art & design class as well as 12th grade art electives.
It is a small high school in NYC, where students can take different art related classes throughout their 4 years. Many students are always looking for new ways to stand out in the crowd, both through their artwork and how they dress.
My Project
Screen printing is a method used today in many fields such as advertising, graphic design, and fashion. It is a method that evokes individuality and requires printmakers to push their creativity to the limits. I want to teach this process to a group of 12th grade students who want to gain more art making skills that could enhance their existing fine art and design skills. I want them to explore their individuality to the fullest in their last months of high school. With your help in getting screen printing supplies, this hope will become a reality. Some of the supplies needed include screen mesh, printing ink, frames, waterproof tape, and cleaning supplies.
Many of our students would never have the opportunity to explore the process of screen printing because it requires a lot of materials that aren't cheap like paper and pencils.
With an elective class, students would learn a process that evokes surprise and excitement. With your help, I can send off the Seniors with another great skill, adding to the many they have already acquired at our school.
