My Project

Our teachers have found it increasingly hard to incorporate fun into learning. With the push being more and more for teachers to teach to the test it has been argued that this takes away the creativity and spontaneous factors that used to be standard teaching tools. One of my favorite games as a child was Scrabble. It amazes me, as I look for young opponents to play against, how many children don’t know how to play this as well as many other board games

I would like to start a Scrabble club at my school.

School Scrabble will help our students in many ways:

SPELLING skills- Our students' spelling will sharpen quickly in the team atmosphere where it’s “cool” to know the spelling rules.

VOCABULARY will expand with the opportunities to find and use new words. SCRABBLE makes words valuable – for points, at first, and then also for their meanings.

MATH skills improve automatically in a game where addition and multiplication are basic.

DICTIONARY SKILLS expand as students learn to rely on the dictionary as the final judge of their words, as well as an exciting source of new words.

THINKING SKILLS expands in the exciting team atmosphere of wordplay, fostering unique opportunities for creative and critical thinking without fear of judgment or poor grades.

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL SKILLS develop naturally as students experience principles of team play, friendly competition, and following rules.
